Dave,
  When I saw this question from you, my first thought was that you must
have hurt your head.  Why expect cut and past to operated through a
bitmapped copy of a remote screen when the clipboard does not even
consistently operate on the local Linux box?  From the responses, it is
clear that people are working on the problem and this is an area where
Linux will probably be ahead of the competition.  If you get this
figured out, it might make a good presentation.
