Greetings.
Current configuration:
NT4 PDC/file server
NT4 SDC/file server
NT4 Exchange 5.5 server
RHES3 Oracle 9.2.0.4 database/server (currently in testing)
2 RHL9 webservers
Future configuration (hopefully...):
RHES3 file server & PDC via Samba
RHES3 Sendmail/Postfix mail server
RHES3 Oracle database/server
Fedora Core x webservers
Clients:
All Windows NT4/XP Pro.
I am wanting to deploy a backup solution similar to Veritas BackupExec to
back up the servers (no clients are backed up). As I understand it, built
in linux solutions (tar, cpio etc.) won't work with the Oracle database, and
obviously won't work with the NT stuff. I am hoping to have a Linux box
host the backup software solution. Veritas said their only solution was the
NetBackup product, which is quite pricey.
We currently have an old version of BackupExec running on our PDC for our
current setup. It won't connect ot the Oracle database. We can't get the
"plug-in" for Oracle with our current version, and they say the current
version of BackupExec won't connect to an Oracle database running on Linux,
which seems strange to me. I would have thought it would connect via the
odbc, but I don't have sufficient knowledge on this to call them on it.
Any insight and/or ideas on how to approach backing up this network would be
greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Monty
