I think you could use MiniCom as a native Linux replacement for HA5 then you
would not have to run dosemu/freedos to run HA5.  It should have the same
Transfer Protocols as HA5.. I used HA5 back in my OS/2 days that was a few
years ago now so I could be wrong about it having the same Transfer
Protocols.

The  transfer protocols had issues with timing if they could not get the
CPU's attention when they wanted it they would abort. I would guess that
dosemu/freedos only add to those issues.

I'm not an expert, someone else may have a better solution..
