I'll have to check my system when I get home. 

I recall that I made a symbolic link for /dev/dvd to the 
real /dev/hdd drive. /dev/dvd was just the 'default' for 
some dvd apps... it's not a hard-requirement. 

I am pretty sure that some programs took 
/mnt/cdrom/ just fine as a argument to the DVD location. 

I'll double check tonight.
