[NTLUG:Discuss] Wireless Keyboard

Please explain why this works.

I bought a "Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard"
and "Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0" combination.
Both have tilt wheels. Nice! Once I swapped the
connections for the receiver to the PC, they work
great. Nice not to have wires.

BTW, Office Depot has a $30 rebate right now ($10
there and $20 mail-in), so the end cost will be $70,
not $100 (or as they say, "$99.99).

I installed the CD with drivers for both with Windows
XP as the OS. Then I removed the hard drive with XP
and installed the HD with RHLinux9, but did add
drivers for them. I expected they would not work.
However, they work great here, too.

Question: Why do they work on the Linux hard drive
when no special drivers were added, while XP required
them?

Thanks, Ralph M.
