Yeppers. I figured out why I was getting the line:
# expected xauth packet; rejected: INVALID_EXCHANGE_TYPE

I had this line in my vpnc.conf (and didn't need it)
Xauth password

Once I deleted that, the error went away.

Question RE: Local Port YOUR-PORT

Somewhere I read that vpnc runs by default on port 500.
I put 500 in my vpnc.sh, anyways. Is that correct?
Your msg says I need to know the port the Cisco server
will use, so I'm thinking it might be that, instead.
I'll need to dig around and find that out.

Now vpnc starts with no error msgs, and accepts my password
input, but then nothing happens. I can't ping any of the 
servers in my company's network. I'm hoping it's the 
port thing.

Oh, and you taught me the rcnetwork restart trick. That's a handy 
one. I was wondering why my network connection kept disappearing 
after each try at running the connect script, and was using yast 
to recover.
