yeah Chris, you're right.. I have a hp filter not an amp in the attic... I didn;t think that sounded right after I sent it
but I was having the exact same problems Brian described...
The cable modem issue I had only started after we moved to a new address and it's been problem free every since. Comcast has even increased my service twice unsolicited and at no extra cost.
I also had a cable modem when I was in Omaha (over 7 years ago) and never had a problem with it.
I tried DSL when I first moved here and that was an absolute disaster.
It took 2 weeks, over 50 hours on the phone with 3 different tech supports (phone company, dsl provider and isp), 75 pages of written notes regarding every converstaion I had with TS, speaking to 35 differnt people (and yes I have all their names still) and 3 visits from a tech to my residence before, I (not WE, but I) finally got it to FUNCTION.
'They" had provisioned me to a "virtual circuit" and only after I asked what the "VC" meant in the circuit code did the tech support guy basically say 'Oh hell, let me change that"... attention to details, folks...
After another 2 weeks of the connection being down more then it was up and sloooowwwww throughput, I gave up and swtiched to cable modem. I can't imagine how a more "typical" end user (like my parents) would have ever gotten it resolved.
just one guys experience with DSL (Danger Will Robinson, Danger)... obviously other people have had success and are happy with DSL

I know our high pass filter/splitter is in the attic. No problems
with Comcast. Love the performance (been with it since @Home).

I don't live where I have a choice though. No DSL in my area (N. Frisco).
