Neither...

You are missing the people who never buy a 'new' computer at all - but
instead incrementally upgrade.  That's what I do - and the computer I
bought back in 1993 is still the computer I'm using now - although
every single part of it has been replaced several times over the
intervening years.

People who work like that may *well* have a kick-ass CPU/memory/etc
but never felt the need to upgrade the OS.

This may especially be the case for people on this mailing list
because (as Linux users) they may not have a need to upgrade their
Windows license as frequently as full-time Windows users.

This continual upgrade approach has the distinct advantage that you
never have to pay the Microsoft tax unless you truly NEED a more
modern version of Windows.
