The board is intel, and the e100 module identifies the nic as an
"Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Connection".

I didn't look for any led lights; I only saw the ones on my keyboard.
And the kernel usually threw up an error message just before it crashed.
The error message varied, but often it was something like "can't stop
the idle process".
