[NTLUG:Discuss] Suse 9.2 software / updates

Guys - was hoping to 'tap' the collective Suse knowedge here.  I've got
a system that's up and running.  Wanna install things like MPlayer and
VLC. I've following some instructions here:

on how to install APT for Suse...but I've run into 'dependency-hell'.  

Is it:

1)  Because they are video players and the software is 'voodoo'
therefore not in the 'normal' places?

2).  Do I have a junky sources.list file (it's been updated per the
link)

3).  Welcome to Suse - (ie. you're outta luck,that's the way it is).
