Dusty memory time... The K6 is a 486 clone, not a Pentium...
AMD says "The mobile AMD-K6 processor is based on a leading-edge 6th
generation architecture and offers performance that is superior to PentiumR
with MMXT technology. Compare the price of 300MHz Mobile AMD-K6 processor
based notebooks with competitive systems and see the savings. The 266MHz
Mobile AMD-K6 processor based notebook makes an excellent choice for the
value minded buyer, setting new performance standards at the entry level."
But note it's SUPERIOR, not compatible with.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Install problem
My kid gave me her Compaq 7360 (K6-2, 500MHz) and said it wouldn't run
anymore. I replaced the M/B and went to install SuSE 9.1 Pro from dvd, but
no luck. It would go a little way into the install and quit. Figured there
might be more hardware probs so basically swapped all except the cpu and
p.s. but still the same. Read about how 9.2 won't work with that cpu, so
tried to install 8.2, no luck. Thought, what the hell and dug out the old
Mandrake 9.0 that was originally on it and I'll be damned, it installed ok.
QUESTION - WTF is up with that? What is the AMD chip missing that Intel
chips of the same era are not? I have SuSE 9.1 Pro running on a P2-450MHz
box, figured the K6-2 would also work, but noooooo.
