For $15 you can get a pci mpeg tv-out card (dxr3) on ebay.  I have an
s-vhs cable and speaker wire connecting my computer to a television and
some speakers in my den.  I use media players with a dxr3 video out, and
anything I can play on my computer (such as the mpeg stream from a
tv-tuner card) can also be played on my television.

Some of the time I watch tv on my monitor in my office with my wife, and
other times we watch tv on the television with the kids.  I like to have
the size of the room be proportional to the number of people in it.  For
two people, the office is a nice size, and for 9 people, the den is a
nice size.  To each his own, I guess.
