[NTLUG:Discuss] OT: Briefly about SPAM

A random message ... Probably not, that's why spoofing works.

But:

(1) Check the headers - they may have been unsophisticated enough to leave
their real IP address as the original sender...
(2) If it's for a commercial product, there will be some sort of contact
info in the message. Most commercial stuff isn't "hey, buy xyz corp's
product - here is their home page", but rather has information to contact
the spammer's company so you can $pend buck$ with them.
(3) As for the adult oriented stuff, I don't understand why people think I
would even want to see pictures of their cats - I have my own two. I guess
you could read the link and figure out who owns the domain.

But sadly, for (2) and (3), if they don't care enough about public opinion
such that they hire a spammer, they probably won't help you track him/her
down...

Is there a way to find out which spammer spoofed an e-mail address? I am
getting a high number of a specific and very annoying e-mail and I would
like to find the people sending it, if I can. Thanks, Dennis Myhand
