Howdy,
  This may be a dumb question, but what is dri?

  I suggest you go into Synaptic and enable the multiverse and universe
repositories, if you have not done so.  I think that was a good move on
Ubuntu's part to make those reposities available so easily.

 The Ubuntu community is really something.  It is the first distro to
come along and spawn a community as active as the RedHat one.  I am not
sure, but the Ubuntu community may even be more active.
