DRI - Direct Rendering Infrastructure - 3D graphics hardware support
It is hardware rendering instead of software rendering.  You can check 
to see if you are using hardware or software rendering by typing the 
command glxinfo and looking for the dri setting.  You can check out the 
performance of your setup using the command glxgears.  At full screen, 
I'm getting 120fps(frames per second) but I should be getting something 
like 2000~3000fps with hardware rendering.  It has never worked right 
for me with any distribution on any computer, period.  I look forward to 
the day...

I did turn those on and it does make life wonderful.  I still don't know 
this though:  Are the packages that are available on the CD repository 
available online as well?  I'd be dumbfounded if they weren't, but I 
haven't done any experimenting.
