I didn't forget, I've just been really busy.
Here are the websites mentioned in my presentation that some of you
asked for.
Weather station links...
Maxim: www.maxim.com (1-wire chips, click on 1-wire link on the left)
AAG: www.aag.com.mx (get the weather station here)
One Wire Weather (OWW): oww.sourceforge.net (weather station software
for Linux)
Texas Weather Instruments: www.texas-weather.com (alternative source for
weather station, MORE EXPENSIVE)
Hobby Boards: www.hobby-boards.com (1-wire sensor kits)
One Wire File System (OWFS): owfs.sourceforge.net (easy filesystem
based sensor access through FUSE package)
NTP links...
NTP homepage: www.ntp.org
Synergy Systems: www.synergygps.com (Motorola GPS Refclock supplier)
NIST: tf.nist.gov (not in presentation, but has more time keeping info
than one would think they would ever need)
PCB links...
PCB homepage: pcb.sourceforge.net (GPL software to make your own PC
boards).
Eagle Software: www.cadsoft.de (non-GPL freeware, and commercial PCB
software)
M.G. Chemicals: www.mgchemicals.com (DIY PCB fabrication kits, also
available at Fry's)
Misc electronic components suppliers...
Newark electronics: www.newark.com
Mouser Electronics: www.mouser.com
Digikey: www.digikey.com
A few basic things can be bought at Radio Shack and Fry's.
Tanner electronics in Carrolton has all kinds of stuff.
I'm thinking about making some of my PCB artwork available, in
Postscript format, to those who want to use it. There are a few gotchas
in some of the board designs (one related to differing Postscript
interpreters that draw some shapes slightly differently than Ghostscript
does), and many do not have component identifiers to aid in
construction. So there would likely have to be a lengthy set of
instructions, sent along with the artwork. There is also an
incompatibility issue with the GPS refclock interface and some of the
newer Motoroloa Oncore GPS receivers.
If anyone is interested, let me know.
I will see about getting my presentation slides uploaded onto the NTLUG
website.
Maybe I'll have my own website for this stuff one day.
Happy hardware hacking,
Stephen Klein
