Ok, that works:
On client PCs, set ServerName in  cups.conf
i.e.
ServerName [host-name-or-IP#-of-printer's-host]

Then configure cups to look for netowrk printer:
Device URI: lpd://ipaddress-or-hostname:515/queue-name-here
