Awfully nice of you to think along these lines. Just dreaming here . . .

If you can get funding and can think a little more expansively, how
about a store front in a low income neighborhood? Have 5-10 permanent
workstations there for learning and teaching. For the other donated
equipment, if a client (really a student) can build, install and use a
system, they can walk out the door with it. (One per customer.)

Apart from the cost, this obviously would be a huge time commitment for
at least several people. Maybe I'm being naive, but I think you'd get
more publicity and donated equipment than you'd know what to do with.
