[NTLUG:Discuss] yum and apt for rpms

I have posted a few messages just after configuring a new computer and
noticed that I never got sent that post. I had the wrong email address
which evolution kindly filled in for me. Duh! So here goes number one.

I have installed a RHEL based distribution, Scientific Linux, and need
to find some documentation on using yum and apt for rpms. Where is the
good documentation? I have been chasing dependencies the hard way and am
about to tear out my last hair. I tried google, but did not really get
the stuff I expected.
