There is an open source VPN client as long as
you allow UDP. I use that currently... though
I continue to test with the closed source
Cisco VPN client as well (which is a bit buggy).
The open source VPN client is nice, but can
be a security violation... just fyi.
I haven't looked at the latest source for open
source client lately, but I do know that a
code change is necessary for it... at least
the one I'm using (which isn't terribly old).
I can dig up that info if anyone is interested...

SUSE Updates are full packages without an
extra manual (oddly enough it's just missing
the smaller User Manual... the important one..
IMHO.. the Admin Manual is included).
I would HIGHLY recommend saving off your data
and reinstalling. Going from 9.2 to 9.3 is one
thing.. .but it's a fairly radical leap going
from 8.2 to 9.3.
I have an update from 7.3 to 9.3 coming up... just
so you don't feel alone on this.
