Then KDE is for you.
I'm into functionality and find KDE to be the most feature rich and
easiest when it comes to adding application launchers.
Being able to grab a window [with Alt-Left-mouse-button] and slide the
top part off the screen is sometimes a very handy feature, a feature
that Gnome doesn't have.
I also like kdm for my login manager (as opposed to gdm).
