Actually these days, most do not share the same memory... Intel is the
exception now other than the rule. PPC, AMD, and SPARC all use some form
of NUMA where each CPU or group of CPUs has it's own memory bank. They do
have access to remote memory, but at a bit of a latency hit. Still,
because the latency is so much better than it used to be, current NUMA
boxes are categorized as SMP.
