Kip - I have Verizon Business FiOS system and have been pretty please
(except for their non-standard networking, but thats another story). 
Didn't see any questions in your post to answer except the above?

I've been finding with Speed tests that most are not ready for 15/2
service (so they so inaccurate info - but it's from their end).  A
Government computer that has Gigabit testing - is at
http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/

And shows about 1.85Mb/s Up and 13.25Mb/s Down
