That's pretty weird.  A very quick google search suggests it's a bug in 
the via82cxxx_audio kernel module.  I have an onboard AC97 and it works 
quite well.  Sorry, I have no other advice than to tell you to try to 
find the author of that kernel module and see if s/he can give you some 
help.
