I'd yank the memory from my old digicam and plop it into a reader
as well (Lexar JumpStart that came with the USB-enabled CF).
The battery life wasn't all that great.  I never liked the fact that
the fragile pins of compact flash are on the camera. A much
smarter approach would be on the memory. That way, if you bend
a pin you aren't out a whole camera. Yes, probably nothing to 
worry about -- but I have heard some people claims of damaged
pins (other cameras, not the 20D).

I tried the latest ghoto2 app last night without luck. It doesn't
list the 20D so it must be using the older version's lib that I
already had on the system. I'll look into that more soon. BTW,
USBview can see when I attach the camera, identifying it OK.
If I have to, I'll get a reader as my printer's USB 1.1 built-in
reader takes a very long time to xfer 1GB and is quirky.
