[NTLUG:Discuss] need kernel compiling enlightenment - 2.6 output dir

With the 2.6 kernel one can use..

KERNELSRC    := /usr/src/linux-2.6.15.6
KERNELOUTPUT := /usr/download/O-2.6.15.6

to allow you to 'make' your kernel so that the output is sent to another 
location.   WHY?  I don't understand why someone would even think to do 
it that way?

This seems to be a very frustrating way to do things.  Is there a 
technical or security reason  why this might be beneficial?
