[NTLUG:Discuss] OT: Create Members-Only web pages

I recently became the webmaster for our Boy Scout troop. The site isn't
very useful right now. One of the items I wish to add is contact info
(name, email, phone nbr) of all the adult leaders. However, I'm not
comfortable with doing that unless there is reasonable preventive
measures from bad guys scraping the site and sending junk emails or
such. I'm looking for ideas on how to setup a Members Only capability
for some areas of the site such as this.

The previous webmaster is no longer with the troop (son made it to
Eagle) and nearly impossible to get any response from (way too busy).
So, all my admin info for the site is purely from exploration of it. My
findings are that the host provides 5 MySQL DBs, 5 M$ SQL DBs, and
appears to support PHP, Perl, and JavaScript. The site currently uses
PHP, JavaScript (just simple menus), and of course HTML. I don't see any
Perl files but Perl is listed in the host admin stats page. This is OT
because the host identifies as a Windows OS. I can create/admin DBs and
FTP files. I sincerely doubt I have privs to install any kind of
software. Just source (PHP, HTML, ...).

Unless others are interested, I think this topic should be discussed
off-list.
