Thank you for your reply - I did that and followed as much of it as I 
could with Googles.  I finally just reinstalled the OS (xine included) 
but the result is the same - sound but not picture (mpg files).  I have 
included the screen output from a session below, in case anyone can 
point me toward a clue.
