Sometimes (always!!!) it is the simple things...

The wireless card wouldn't work in that pci slot. Another (same make and model)
would. Go figure. The software was all there and set up right, there just
wasn't any hardware for it to use. I had not used lspci, when I finally did, it
didn't show the card. Oops!

When I tried the other card, the system recognized it and went immediately to
the
config screen. I then shut it down, tried the "bad" card again and nothing, so
then I tried a different slot and it worked fine. DAMN!!!

Oh, well, it's working now.
