Oh, make no mistake:  I'm a long-time Slack user, with a bunch of
other random distros tossed in for variety, but I was very impressed
with Dapper and with the on-line documentation, something which is
sometimes lacking with the other distros.  Choice is what OSS is all
about.

I'm just questioning the wisdom of dividing a group (in this case
Linux newbies) based upon distros.  It seems that affiliating with an
already-established group would have been more beneficial for all
involved rather than subdividing a finite population of individuals
interested in learning Linux.

Choice can be good, but it also carries a negative in that personal
expertise is often wasted on duplicative efforts.
