If the program allows you to configure a program to invoke... tell it
to invoke kprinter (e.g. instead of lp or lpr).

For example, in gimp, setup a New Printer.. I give it the name kprinter,
and then do a Setup Printer (all of this from the Print dialog)... and
then for the Command (which will probably show lpr ..blah..blah..) just
enter kprinter instead.

Then select kprinter and that will pull up the kprinter dialog when
printing which allows all of the neato KDE features (print to PDF, FAX,
etc).

Same thing can be done for firefox (about:config), etc.
