Ah ... feeding the crowd that never closes an application?  I only have 
1 GB memory on a laptop running MDK 9.1 and the only real slowdowns I 
experience (even with many apps open) is when some network hog gets 
going - of course that is subjective (i.e., from the user's point of view).
