Dell will install XP instead of Vista if you want. That would be the
direction to go if you want Dell. I've been happy with them for years
now. Using an Inspiron 1501 right now with Ubuntu installed.
Max out the memory then run VMware or other virtualization. That way
you can have the best of both worlds available without booting. Linux
runs quite well as a guest on an XP host. From some standpoints, its
better that way on a laptop since the drivers work for Windows and
laptop drivers are problematic under Linux, especially wireless.
