Perhaps you could install linux using VMWare Player under windows? I
don't know if that would allow you to mount your partitions or not, but
you might be closer to working with the problem rather than against it.
Also, I don't know how samba shares work exactly, but you might be able
to work out something where windows could serve up files to other
distros which couldn't mount the drive directly.
Just brainstorming...
If that works, it would be the strongest case for Windows being the host
OS for VMware and playing *nix images.
