I'm a certified high school teacher, taught 3 years in Garland (and
may go back, who knows). Unfortunately, I taught math and computer
science, and didn't keep up with what was going on in auto shop (maybe
because we didn't have an auto shop). I can assure you we were weren't
watching "American Pie" (but I did show "Stand and Deliver" to my
advanced math students to provide some context).
Again, though, the two topics (IT and teaching) are, in my mind,
correlated in that that both are currently a buyer's (employers)
market. Both can specify detailed work requirements because -- follow
me here -- *there is no shortage of qualified applicants*.
That's it, in a nutshell. No other explanation exists as to why or
how IT companies or school districts can specify a laundry list of job
qualifications other than that they have a large pool of otherwise
qualified applicants to select from.
