One possibility is that may be missing is that the machine is simply
broken.  Linux and Microsoft OSes handle hardware errors differently.
Microsoft just blue-screens and/or crashes without reporting the cause
to the user.  Linux often reports the problem somewhere and disables the
device or sometimes reports the problem repeatedly in logs with entries
like "last error repeated 46 times" and stuff like that.

It could simply be that Windows is less tolerant of problems.  You might
try disabling sound in the BIOS to see if Windows becomes stable.
