[NTLUG:Discuss] c/c++ Header Files

I just installed ubuntu 7.04 on a computer. I could not compile
a simple "Hello World" c program beacause gcc could not find the
header files. I used locate and find and apparently my default
install did not include any of the standard header files for c
of c++. Using Synaptic Package Manager I could not find what
package these header files are in. Can any of you help me?

I do not understand why they would bother to install gcc without
the header files. They are needed for even the simplest c and c++
programs.
