I suppose I'll get an LCD with a DVI input. Too bad that means I
need to get a new video card.
Are any video cards with DVI outputs especially compatible with the
Linux kernel?
Also, since I'm planning to use two monitors, I guess I'll need a
PCI card and an AGP card, or two PCI card, or a suitable multi-head
card. I want to use a dual-monitor setup such as I had a few years
ago, before I gave one of my monitors to my kids' computer but was
too cheap to replace it.
Does anyone have a dual-monitor setup using GNU/Linux that they are
satisfied with, and in particular a setup that uses free software?

Lance,
My computer, AMD 64 Athlon X2, has on-board ATI video. It also has a PCI-E x16 slot for a video card. I tried twice to install a new video card then use both video cards. It does not work. Manufacturer instructions make it clear that only one card can be enabled. There are dual output video cards, but I am too cheap to buy one and try it. I did find a DVI output card on woot.com for about $20. It works great with Linux and my Samsung 1600x1200 monitor. Current Linux is Fedora, but any recent Linux should do. I did download an ATI driver from a choice of three (only one worked), but this may change with recent AMD offerings.
