| IIRC, if you don't use yast/yast2 to make changes, you have to run the
| SuSEconfig so that SuSE updates everything correctly. Did you do this?

Hi Ed.
Not right then. And so far as I can tell, there is no SuSEconfig module
for networking. However, SuSEconfig has been run several times since,
with no change in behaviour.
