Well concerning what you term my kung fu connection. I have a friend who pays the extra and is quite a bit faster then mine. Speed really does not concern me that much now that I graduated beyond dial up GRIN
My up load is 320 kilo bits sec and download 2857
However with all this technology I pay $30 a month and cannot even configure mail on linux. Yes if I got away from what yahoo calls free mail, paid the extra $10 a month then I could ues the fetch capability and not have to go to Yahoo each time to get mail. Guess there is an up and downside to everthing. By and large I am really enjoying my linus experience and mosatly because of giving people like yourself. Being retired the Internet has more importance then it did before. Take care and thanks

  Howdy,
I think Tony has found it. Recently, Ubuntu has started leaving the
CD as a source. You have two options. A simple one is to take your
Ubuntu CD and put it in the drive when you try to install. It may well
be faster this way, since any packages on the CD that are current will
be used, instead of having to fetch them over the network. The other
option is to go to Synaptic, choose Settings/Repositories and deselect
the CD. You may have to scroll down to see the CD choice. Then, reload
and try to install the packages you want.
I want you to tell us more about this kung fu DSL you have. Super
Fist. That sounds intimidating.
Good luck,
