That is very interesting.  There is code in the Berry project that
changes the power output of a USB port that has a particular device
plugged into it.  I wonder if the code could be modified to supply more
power from the port when your drive is detected?  It could be a rather
useful project in that many other USB drives are marginal when it comes
to getting the power they need from USB alone.
