Something which may be helpful here would be for Dennis to explain a few 
things in more detail:

Why do you want to restore the XP boot mbr?
How is the Slack 12.1 loader getting in the way so that you can't redo 
your Linux partition?
What kinds of things are you trying to do with the partitions "and some 
other things"?

Without understanding the context you have left us trying to answer a 
specific question which may not even be what you want?
