I use an Antronix 5-1000 with no "noticeable"  speed issues.  I have had 
problems with
"Regal" brand splitters in the past and just throw them in the trash 
when I find them.
Downstream frequency usually lives in the 50-750 MHz range. Most cable 
issues are
due to poor cables/terminals.
