I'm pretty sure that device is not a DVD burner, but rather it is a  
combo CD-RW/DVD drive. If so it will burn CDs but only read DVDs.  
Could you post the exact model number? You should be able to retrieve  
that information with this command:

hdparm -i /dev/sr0
