[NTLUG:Discuss] grub MBR?

Hello,
  I purchased spinrite, Steve Gibsons' HD maintaining software.  Supposed to be great and will keep HD's up and working.
  BUT, I can't get it to run in any format....floppy, CD , or flash USB drive!!!!
  Perhaps, it's the way my system is setup:  two HD's one with xphome 2nd with Ubuntu which is governed by the Grub MBR....Is that the problem?
  Response when I start with the floppy in:  remove disks and f1 to restart????  Is the grub MBR doing that?
  My laptop HP compaq presario, is configured similarly, partitioned with xphome and Ubuntu, the MBR won't recognize the CD just wants to boot!!!
  Hope you guys have a simple solution I'm not thinking about?!!  I surely don't want to corrupt my MBR!!
