Try switching to "Folder View" on the cashew in the top right corner.
You can try changing the properties of the panel in the "Configure your
Desktop" control panel thingy buried in the menu, YMMV.
I have switched to PCLinuxOS because it works great and uses KDE
3.5.10... My Mandriva machines are either still at 2008.1 with KDE
3.5.9 or 2009.1 with KDE 4.2.0. I'm not fond of KDE 4 either, but it
works much better than it did a year ago...
