Hmm, do you know what the option is called?  The reason I ask is that I
couldn't set my monitor resolution higher than some strange value like
900x600 (don't remember what it was, not sure I want to know) until I
ran sax2 and it created an xorg.conf file.  After an X restart I could.
 I didn't make any special settings in xorg.conf but sax2 may have.
