Have you installed the compatibility libraries on the 2.6 systems? If so, do your builds for the 2.4 systems and see what happens. You might also try statically linking them.

Is there anyway to build a binary on Linux that will be compatible with
both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels?

I'm trying to get a vim build that will run on all the various boxes I
work on.  My current build gives this error on the 2.4 boxes:

FATAL: kernel too old
Segmentation fault
