Just about every distro out there has a LiveCD so that you can
test-drive before you install.  Burn a few different ones and see
which ones work with your hardware and your requirements.  You could
start with the top five from DistroWatch:

1  	Ubuntu
2 	Fedora
3 	Mint
4 	openSUSE
5 	Mandriva
