Seems like OpenSuSE has taken a wrong turn recently, I ended up dropping
11.2 due to odd video problems among other things. If you don't want to
go the Ubuntu route but are looking for good app support Debian is
pretty good. However, Debian has it's quirks to watch out for. They've
gotten in a dispute with Mozilla and now supply their own variant of
Firefox and Thunderbird which may be OK but they don't stay as current
as I would like. One area where they seem weak is "problem" support. I
went through a hard disk agony which I suspect was the motherboard
(don't know, not using it again, don't want to find out). When it
trashed my disk so badly that partitions weren't even found the SuSE
live CD was able to recover all. When a Debian install was trashed (but
not as badly) the Debian live CD didn't do much for me. Maybe they had
programs to do better repair but they weren't built in.
